Obituary of Susan M. Smith
Valley Falls, New York
Susan Marie “Sue” Smith, 64, of Valley Falls, beloved wife of the late Nyle Joseph Smith, Sr., peacefully entered into eternal life in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
Born in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Carl B. and Dorothy M. “Dotty” Wager Jenness and was a graduate of Hoosic Valley Senior High School in Schaghticoke, Class of 1977.
Sue had been a Cashier at the Hoosic Valley Shop ‘n Save in Schaghticoke, a Custodian with the Hoosic Valley Central Schools and for 29 years was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy in their Dietary Department.
Susan took great pride in being a dedicated wife and loving mother, having raised Nyle, Jr. as a single parent after the untimely early passing of her husband in 2005, when Nyle, Jr. was just becoming a young man.
Sue worshipped at Hoosic Valley Community Church in Schaghticoke, previously at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and was a member of the former Schaghticoke Ladies Auxiliary Police with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department.
Devoted and loving mother of Nyle J. (Bryonna) Smith, Jr., cherished and proud grandmother of Nyle J. Smith, III, sister of Linda Ruthosky (William) Moon, aunt of Melanie M. Ruthosky, the late Michael J., Ruthosky, Jr. and Steven Ruthosky, also survived by her loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral Service will be officiated by Rev. Clyde McCaskill, Pastor of the Hoosic Valley Community Church in Schaghticoke on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Noon in the White - Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 58 Leversee Rd., (RT-40 in Speigletown) Troy, NY 12182.
Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. to Noon in the funeral home.
Interment will be held in the family plot in Millertown Cemetery, Johnsonville immediately following the funeral service.
