Obituary of Daniel F. Sisto
On August 23rd, 2023, Daniel F. Sisto of Clifton Park, New York, passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was enjoying the beginning of a new chapter in life in Knoxville, Tennessee at the time of his passing. We know that he was embraced at Heaven’s gates by his grandparents, Frank and Dorothy Sisto and Samuel and Elizabeth Evans, as well as his beloved dog, Brandy. Dan was born in Queens, New York to his parents Daniel and Susan Sisto and later moved to Clifton Park, New York. He graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1989 and Siena College in 1993.
Dan dedicated his life to serving the community with the New York State Police for 23 years. He rushed to serve New York City in the wake of 9/11. As a member of the NYSP, he was the Second Vice-President and Legislative Director of the NYSTPBA. When Dan wasn’t serving in uniform, he was a mentor and role model for youth basketball players. He led his teams with compassion and empathy, focusing on the whole person rather than the win. He believed in each of his players and committed to bringing out the very best in his team. When Dan wasn’t serving the community and helping others, he loved driving his boat on Loon Lake, making “Sisto Sauce” with his kids, and cheering on the University of Tennessee Vols and the New York Jets.
Dan will be most remembered by his larger than life personality and laughter. His energy was contagious and his smile lit up the room. For those that knew him best, he was a protector, always caring for those he loved and ensuring a feeling of safety. Dan most loved being a husband and father; teasing the love of his life of more than 28 years, Danielle, with a glint in his eye, talking about law school and life with Ashley, coaching Kylie and Anthony in how lessons on the court transcend into life, and giving each of them advice to consider as they made both small and big decisions. His absence will forever be felt in their hearts.
Dan is survived by his loyal and loving wife, Danielle Sisto; his three children, Ashley (Daniel) DeGennaro, Kylie Sisto, and Anthony Sisto; his parents, Daniel and Susan Sisto; siblings Christine (William) Mertes, Frank (Ethel) Sisto, and Nicole (Kevin) French; his in-laws, Joseph and Tina Boan; his many beloved nieces and nephews; and so many cherished friends and family members.
