Obituary of Donald R. Barnes, Sr.
Donald R. Barnes , Sr., 71 of Clifton Park, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.
Born in Schenectady, he was son of the late Floyd Benjamin and Margaret Wheadon Barnes, growing up in Colonie and was a graduate of Colonie High School.
Don worked for Otis Elevator in Albany as a Senior Mechanic when he retired after 37 years of service. He was later employed for 10 years by National Church Residences in Clifton Park.
Don enjoyed his life with his wife and family, spending time with his grandchildren at their summer home on Saratoga Lake, boating or in the swimming pool. Enjoyed many years on the horse farms with family, his rescue dogs, cats, birds and trips to Florida. One of his favorite enjoyments was his '92 Corvette and attending car shows. Don loved Big Band music and played several brass instruments and early years at his home on Brant Lake. Don was an Honorary Life Member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, I.U.E.C. Local 35.
Beloved husband of 41 years to Pamela J. See Barnes of Clifton Park, devoted father of Michael W. (Kristin) Barnes of Clifton Park, Donald R. (Keira) Barnes, Jr. of Waterford and Cheryl P. (Daniel) Lynn of Malta and the late Michael D. Bombard, brother of the late Thomas Barnes and the late Patricia Caffrey See, cherished grandfather of Makayla and Grace Barnes, Shannon and Connor Barnes and Aiden and Kelsey Lynn, son-in- law of Joan DeGennaro and the late Charles W. See, brother-in-law of Anita Barnes of Castleton, NY and Cynthia (James) Welch of Schaghticoke, also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Relatives & friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Interment will be held in Memory’s Garden, Colonie.
